PANAJI: Sergei Rozanov, a Russian national on trial, has been charged with attempting to bring illegal substances into Colvale State Central jail.
The event happened on January 21 at approximately 3:45 p.m., according to a complaint filed with the Colvale Police Station by Shankar B. Gaonkar, the superintendent of the Colvale jail.
As stated in the complaint, the accused was escorted to Mapusa for a court hearing and returned after the hearing. He was frisked by the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) before entering the prison after it was suspected that he was in possession of 94 grams of charas, which were valued at around Rs 94,000. He had worn sandals to hide the narcotics.
