Panaji: S.S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, and St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa emerged champions in the women’s and men’s categories respectively at the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Badminton Championships 2025–26, held at the SAG Indoor Stadium, Campal, from August 5 to 8. In the women’s final, S.S. Dempo College defeated P.G. Goa University 2-0, with Riya Haldankar overcoming Lesha Lotlikar 21-10, 21-13 and Malaikar Lobo beating Sarvadhnya Patil 21-6, 21-8. Riya Haldankar was named Best Women’s Player of the championship. In the men’s final, St. Xavier’s College trounced Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, 3-0, with Ashmeet Parsekar and Yousuf Shaikh winning their singles matches and pairing up to clinch the doubles. Yousuf Shaikh was adjudged Best Men’s Player. The semi-finals saw strong performances from Sridora Caculo College, Don Bosco College, Panjim, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna, and Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, who shared third place in their respective categories. The awards were presented by Chief Guest Shri Ashok Chodankar, Deputy Director, DHE-Academics, and Guest of Honour Shri Roy Athide, Badminton Coach, SAG, in the presence of Goa University’s Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Mr. Balachandra B. Jadar.
