New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid out six key guarantees for West Bengal while launching a sharp attack on the state’s ruling party during an election rally in Haldia. With the state preparing for Assembly elections later this month, he urged voters to support a government aligned with the Centre, describing it as essential for accelerating development.
West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
Addressing the rally, the Prime Minister criticised the administration led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing the government of promoting corruption, favouritism and a culture of “cut money.” He argued that the state would benefit from a “double engine” government, meaning the same party governing both the state and the Centre.
According to him, such coordination would help unlock economic potential and strengthen sectors like fisheries and food production, making the state more self reliant.
The Prime Minister outlined six guarantees that the Bharatiya Janata Party intends to deliver if elected to power. The first promise focuses on restoring law and order by replacing what he described as an atmosphere of fear with trust and stronger rule of law.
The second guarantee centres on making the government system more accountable to the public. He also pledged that all files linked to alleged corruption and crimes against women would be reopened and investigated thoroughly.
Another assurance emphasised strict action against those found guilty of corruption, stating that individuals involved in wrongdoing would face legal consequences regardless of their position.
The Prime Minister also accused the state’s governance model of operating through a network of syndicates that demand commissions for routine work. He said industries require an environment of trust and transparency to grow, which he believes can be ensured by a BJP administration.
His fifth guarantee addressed the issue of citizenship and migration. Refugees would receive constitutional rights, while illegal infiltrators would be identified and expelled.
Finally, he promised that the Seventh Pay Commission would be implemented in the state if the BJP forms the government, assuring government employees and teachers that their concerns would be addressed.
Closing his speech, the Prime Minister reiterated the slogan of inclusive development but added a warning that those responsible for alleged corruption in the state would be held accountable.
