CANACONA: Citing growing fear over unidentified individuals allegedly roaming the locality at odd hours, residents of Sadolxem in Poinguinim village panchayat have submitted a memorandum to the Canacona Deputy Collector demanding immediate night-time police patrolling and action against disturbances caused by tourists on the Sadolxem bridge.
In the absence of Deputy Collector Prataprao Naik Gaonkar, the memorandum was handed to Mamlatdar Gajesh P. Shirodkar. The residents allege that for several days, unknown persons have been entering house compounds between 2 am and 4 am, triggering panic, especially among the elderly. Several instances have reportedly been captured on CCTV, but no concrete action has been taken despite complaints to the police.
The villagers also raised concerns about frequent obstruction caused by large groups of tourists on the narrow Sadolxem bailey bridge, who allegedly park vehicles on the bridge, block traffic for selfies and videos, and behave rudely with locals.
“Our repeated complaints and requests for police presence have been ignored. We are left with no option but to approach the Deputy Collector for urgent intervention,” said a resident, urging for both regular night patrolling and deployment of police personnel at the bridge to prevent further nuisance.
