VASCO: Vasco Sports Authority of Goa Tilak Maidan and in-house gymnasium remain in shambles despite being assured by the Sports Minister to immediately be taken up for repair works.
For Vascokars, there is an abundance of substance that is a “promise” or “assurance” given by the politicians to make some welfare-orientated changes in the existing services and the infrastructure. The ironic part of this situation is that the tall and beautiful assurances given for free to the citizens by the politicians stay distant from reality.
The state-of-the-art SAG Tilak Maidan and the gymnasium from Vasco continue to stay unattended by the authorities concerned despite the news published in the media a few days ago.
The Tilak Maidan roof is leaking everywhere. The changing rooms and the practice room are full of rainwater. The false ceiling of some sections of these rooms has fallen down, making it dangerous for the players. The ceiling top of this building is covered with tarpaulins giving it an ugly look.
The condition of the gymnasium is nothing better than this playground. The gym is leaking in most places, and the visitors are irked over the non-maintenance of this gym by the SAG.
Dilesh, a gym visitor, said that building infrastructure is not a big thing. But the timely maintenance of bigger infrastructure is most crucial as the infrastructure should benefit and cater to the people for a longer time.
Fardin, another local, said that the government should not wait for more damage to this building. If some ceiling falls or if someone slips on the wet floor and gets injured, then who should be held responsible for the damage? He questioned.
It may be recalled that Sports Minister Govind Gaude visited the sports infrastructure from Vasco two months ago. During his inspection, Gaude had instructed the SAG officials to take up the repair work of this gymnasium immediately. He had also assured to put up the sound system and air conditioning in this gym, but to date, nothing from all these assurances has been fulfilled.
