Mumbai:
In a shocking turn of events, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was brutally stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai residence on January 16, prompting a comprehensive police investigation. The attack left Khan with multiple serious injuries, including a critical wound near his spine. The intruder, identified as Shariful Islam from Bangladesh, was apprehended after a rigorous three-day manhunt. Recently, Saif Ali Khan recorded his statement with the police, providing a detailed account of the terrifying incident.
Saif Ali Khan and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom on the 11th floor of the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra when they were alerted by the screams of their younger son Jehangir’s nanny, Eliyama Philips. The nanny’s cries for help led them to Jeh’s room, where they encountered the intruder. The assailant, armed with a stick and a sharp blade, had demanded Rs 1 crore from Philips before attacking her when she refused.
During the confrontation, Saif Ali Khan attempted to protect his family and was stabbed several times on his back, neck, and hands. Despite his injuries, Khan managed to push the intruder into the room while Philips escaped with Jeh and locked him in for safety. Khan suffered six stab wounds, one of which was near his spine, leading to spinal fluid leakage. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital around 2 am and underwent emergency surgeries to address his critical condition.
The alleged attacker, Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national who had entered India illegally last year, was arrested in Thane near Mumbai following a meticulous three-day manhunt involving at least 20 police teams. The police tracked him down after he made a Google Pay transaction for a breakfast item. Several fingerprints of the accused were found at various locations in the building, including the stairs, toilet door, and the door handle of Jeh’s room. Islam confessed to the crime two days after his arrest, although his father claimed he was wrongfully implicated.
Saif Ali Khan was discharged from the hospital on January 21 after undergoing surgeries to fix the leaking spinal fluid and other injuries. The incident has highlighted significant security concerns for high-profile individuals in Mumbai. In response, the Mumbai Police have increased security measures for the Khan family, and Saif Ali Khan has hired a private security agency to enhance the security at his residence, including the installation of CCTV cameras.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, exploring possible conspiracy angles and ensuring that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined. The attack has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood community, emphasizing the need for robust security protocols to protect celebrities and their families.
