Saligao: Following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two youths, the Village Panchayat of Saligao has made an urgent plea to authorities for the immediate removal of illegally parked vehicles along key road stretches in the village.
In a letter dated July 31, 2025, addressed to the Assistant Director of RTO Mapusa, the Calangute Traffic Cell, and the Police Inspector of Saligao Police Station, Sarpanch Lucas A. Dos Remedios highlighted longstanding public concerns over unsafe roadside parking. The letter specifically mentions the Saligao-Parra Road, including the stretch from Chogam Road to Saligao Church and from Saligao Circle to Parra Road, as accident-prone due to haphazardly parked vehicles.
The Panchayat has called for immediate action to clear the roads of parked vehicles and to initiate legal measures against violators. Copies of the notice have also been sent to vehicle owners with instructions to remove their vehicles without delay.
Local residents have backed the Panchayat’s appeal, expressing hope that strict enforcement will enhance road safety and prevent future mishaps.
