SALIGAO: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, Saligao Police on April 12 busted an IPL betting racket operating out of a villa in Sangolda, Bardez, Goa. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Villa No. 4, Arrarzais Villas, Marod, around 5:40 PM, during the IPL match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. During the raid, three individuals were caught red-handed accepting online bets on the ongoing match. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohit Chhablani (26), a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat; Iman Zafar (22), from Aurangabad Nabinagar, Bihar; and Nitinkumar Valecha (38), also from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Police seized one mobile phone, one laptop, and other electronic accessories from the spot, all valued at approximately ₹1.2 lakh. A formal complaint was lodged later the same evening by PSI Sarvesh Bhandari of Saligao Police Station. The investigation is being led by PSI Akshay Fatarpekar, under the supervision of the Police Inspector of Saligao Police Station, SDPO Porvorim Shri Vishwesh Karpe, and SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS. Saligao Police have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal betting activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
