In a bid to regulate fishing business in the panchayat jurisdiction, the Saligao village panchayat has decided to bring all fishing retail business under one roof at panchayat premises.
Saligao Sarpanch Lafira Gomes told this website that the issue of fish sales on the roadside was discussed at the Panchal meeting on Wednesday.
“The members were of the opinion that the fish sales on roadside has caused fights amongst the vendors as well as traffic jams. We are sympathetic towards the vendors. We also understand the people’s woes who are trying to make livelihood during lockdown,” Gomes said.
She explained that once all the vendors, including vehicles come in one place, everyone will get equal opportunity for sale.
“This will also clear the roads for traffic and bring more people to one place who are looking to buy fish instead of vendors scattered at different places,” she said.
She said they have made letter to the police station Saligao and requested them to ask the vendors to move to panchayat compound.
