New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces on the occasion of Army Day, saying the dedication of soldiers serving in the most challenging conditions fills every citizen with pride. He lauded the unwavering commitment of Army personnel who protect the nation across difficult and dangerous terrains.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister praised the bravery of troops deployed in remote regions, dense forests and snow covered mountain peaks. He offered heartfelt salutations to soldiers guarding India’s borders and acknowledged their discipline, valour and selfless service to the nation.
The Prime Minister said the resolve and professionalism of the armed forces remain a source of strength for the country. He extended his best wishes to soldiers and expressed hope that they continue to emerge victorious in every challenge. He also invoked blessings for the safety and well being of the nation during times of adversity, recognising the role of the armed forces as the first line of defence.
Army Day is observed every year to honour the service, sacrifices and achievements of the Indian Army and to recognise its contribution to national security and unity. The day also serves as a reminder of the countless men and women in uniform who stand vigilant to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
Political leaders across party lines joined in paying tribute to the armed forces. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed gratitude to soldiers, veterans, ex servicemen and their families for their continued service to the nation. He described the Army as the steadfast shield of the country, protecting its borders in extreme and inhospitable conditions.
Kharge highlighted the Army’s vital role not only in defending the nation from external threats but also in supporting internal security and providing assistance during natural disasters and emergencies. He said the armed forces have repeatedly demonstrated professionalism, resilience and a spirit of selfless sacrifice.
He added that the nation remains deeply indebted to the Indian Army for its courage and commitment, which continue to ensure the safety and stability of the country. The tributes reflected a shared national sentiment of respect and appreciation for the men and women who serve in uniform, often at great personal sacrifice.
