Porvorim: The Gram Sabha of Salvador do Mundo on Sunday witnessed heated exchanges as villagers accused the panchayat of mismanagement on multiple fronts, including garbage collection, maintenance of public grounds, and handling of illegal constructions.
Villager Rina Fernandes said that the world-class football ground developed under MLA Rohan A. Khaunte was once well-maintained and even hosted international visitors. She alleged that the panchayat has stopped coaching programmes, begun charging locals to use the ground, and is spreading false messages against the MLA.
Raising concerns over waste management, Dattaram Redkar said that garbage was piling up across the village. “I myself removed three truckloads of trash in the past 15 days. Despite garbage tax being collected, the panchayat has failed to ensure proper daily collection,” he stated.
Several residents demanded that the panchayat act immediately to address the garbage menace and free the village from foul odours.
The Gram Sabha also saw complaints about illegal construction and circulation of misinformation. Villagers alleged that the panchayat was spreading fake news, creating confusion and unrest in the community. They urged authorities to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.
