PANAJI: In a recent review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister (CM), significant challenges facing the mining sector were discussed, with particular focus on the legal sand mining issue and the pending environmental clearances (ECs) for laterite mining projects.
One of the primary concerns highlighted during the meeting was the legal sand mining issue, which remains stalled due to delays in obtaining the necessary Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance.
The CM directed relevant departments to expedite the clearance process to ensure that sand mining activities can continue in compliance with environmental norms.
Another critical issue brought up during the meeting was the pending environmental clearances for 28 laterite mining projects. These clearances are crucial for the projects to move forward.
The CM issued clear directives to the Mines Department to actively follow up on the status of these applications and push for their swift resolution.
