SANGUEM: The headmistress of a high school in Sanguem, has been suspended for three months by the school management following allegations of physically assaulting a Class VI student. The alleged incident was reportedly captured on CCTV footage.
According to police, the incident took place while the headmistress was questioning two students in a classroom. During the session, she allegedly slapped one of the boys multiple times.
The matter came to light after the student informed his mother about the incident. Upon visiting the school, she stated that the headmistress failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
She later secured the CCTV footage and filed a formal complaint with Sanguem Police Station.
Authorities have registered offences under Sections 125(a) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering human life through negligence and voluntarily causing hurt, in addition to Section 8(2) of the Goa Children’s Act.
Speaking to the media, Sandesh Kosambe, chairman of the school management, said, “A special meeting will be held to review the incident and determine further action.”
