SANGUEM: The headmistress of a high school in Sanguem, Teja Bhise, has been booked after allegedly physically assaulting a Class 6 student, following a complaint filed by the boy’s mother.
Police stated that the incident occurred when the headmistress was questioning two students in a classroom and reportedly slapped one of the boys multiple times.
The act was captured on the classroom’s CCTV camera.
The matter came to light when the boy informed his mother about the incident.
On visiting the school to inquire, she claimed the headmistress failed to give a satisfactory explanation. She then obtained the CCTV footage and lodged a formal complaint with the Sanguem Police Station.
Authorities have registered offences under Sections 125a and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering human life through negligence and voluntarily causing hurt, as well as Section 8(2) of the Goa Children’s Act.
Speaking to the media, Sandesh Kosambe, chairman of the school management, said a special meeting will be held on Thursday to review the incident and decide on further action.
