Even as the people of Shel Melauli and Sattari are up in arms over IIT GOA project, the Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar has indirectly stated that his constituency was robbed of the project.
“Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised us that IIT Goa would come up in Sanguem. There were some minor issues of farmers which could have been sorted but the government have the project to Sattari,” he said after meeting Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The MLA says there is a good site in Sanguem which was ideal for educational project.
“It was a big project for Goa and I am of the view that we had land and couls have ben utilised for the IIT,” he said.
Asked whether he welcomes IIT in Sanguem since the project os opposed in Sattari, replied, the project is already given to Sattari and I do not want on that now.
“You see youth are opposing projects as there is no clarity on what is happeneni. Once the land is identified by government they have to talk to locals which is not happening,” he said.
