PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today assured the sugarcane farmers that Sanjeevani Sugar Factory will not be shut down.
Sawant also assured that the government will continue to provide minimum support price to sugarcane farmers for next five years.
He said that the DPR for setting up Ethanol plant at the site will be ready within 45 days.
Earlier, Madkai MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar went in the well of the house demanding discussion on the issue.
The factory never made profits in its 46-year-tenure except of minor profits for seven years – in 1989-89, ‘89-90, ‘91-92, ‘93-94, ‘95-96 and ‘96-97.
The State government in September 2020 transferred the Sanjivani Sugar Factory from the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to the Agriculture Department for its smooth functioning
