SADA: In a groundbreaking event, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar flagged off the inaugural Goa Midnight Marathon at Sada, setting a vibrant tone for the state’s sporting and cultural calendar. Held on the scenic flyover overlooking the Arabian Sea, the event showcased Goa’s growing infrastructure, which has transformed the region into a hub for unique and large-scale events.
Addressing the gathering, Amonkar emphasized the significant role of improved roadways and the newly inaugurated port connectivity Railway Over Bridge in hosting events of this magnitude. “The enhanced infrastructure has not only eased traffic but has also opened avenues for vibrant events like this marathon, which brings the community together,” he stated.
The midnight race attracted an overwhelming response, with around 500 athletes participating across various distance categories. The illuminated flyover, with its stunning sea views, offered a picturesque backdrop, adding to the excitement of the event.
Elaborate arrangements were made to ensure the smooth conduct of the marathon, including road closures, specialized lighting, and safety measures for participants. Athletes competed in several categories based on distances, utilizing the newly developed infrastructure, including the Railway Over Bridge that connects to the port.
Participants and spectators alike praised the organization of the event, with many describing the midnight run as a “unique and unforgettable experience.” The success of the marathon is expected to pave the way for more such events in the future, putting Goa on the map as a destination for sports and recreational activities.
