PANAJI: Mormugao Congress candidate Sankalp Amonkar and the other two candidates pledge to expose the people behind the fake news video. Candidates claimed such a fake video was released just before the election to defame and damage the candidate’s prospects in the election.
Mormugao Congress candidate Sankalp Amonkar on Saturday night, along with other candidates Savio D’Silva and Avertano, who had come to file a complaint with the Chief Electoral officer at Altinho Panaji, said that “we had come to file a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, but surprisingly the office is closed now which is supposed to be open 24×7 during election time.
Amonkar further said that a fake news clipping started circulating on social media on Saturday evening, and to give our side of clarification, we had called an urgent press conference on Saturday at 10.15pm, but the electoral office didn’t allow us to take it. Then we had come to file a complaint with the Chief Electoral officer’s office, but the office is closed, this shows who is behind this, and the entire system is being taken over”.
He further stated, “I have been a loyal Congressman for the last 26 years, and nobody can doubt it. I have worked hard in the party and fought two elections, and the third time I am contesting on a Congress ticket.”
He said that all three of them, Savio, Avertano and himself, are winning, so this viral video is circulating to defame them.
“We have come in person to put our side of the story. Recently, I exposed a sex scandal video, but instead of taking action on the involved person in the scandal, cases in me have been filed. This is being done to suppress is,” Amonkar claimed.
He claimed a Congress wave in Goa and knowing that party is winning, this fake news video is being circulated. “People of Goa are clever; they know what is happening,” he says.
Amonkar added, “we demand an in-depth inquiry in this matter, and after polling day, we will further pursue this matter and expose the person behind this issue”.
Later, Velim Congress candidate Savio Dsilva said that he has remained with the people of the Velim constituency doing an election campaign.
The people of Velim were shocked to see this fake news video on Saturday evening. Surprisingly the video was deleted from YouTube afterwards.
“I am winning in Velim, and therefore opposition is trying to defame us at the last minute. I am a fighter, and I will fight for what is right,” D’Silva added.
Aversano Furtado, Independent candidate Navelim said that he has taken an oath in the religious place to remain loyal to people, and he will stand by it.
He further said he was shocked to see how low some people could stoop down.
