Sanquelim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced a new initiative aimed at empowering youth, especially Class VIII pass students, Class X dropouts, and other educated young people, through skill development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Eagle Sports Club’s new office and library, he introduced a three-month Deendayal Mukhyamantri Kaushalya Yojana course designed to equip participants with practical skills for employment.
Highlighting the importance of traditional sports, Sawant encouraged preparing young athletes for the 2036 Olympics. He also advised players to secure their Form-4 certificates, enabling them to apply for government jobs under the sports quota. “The goal is to nurture a generation that is strong in both skills and social values,” he said.
The CM also provided updates on local development, stating that nearly 80% of projects in Sanquelim are complete, with major transformations expected within the next six months. Upcoming works include road improvements, beautification from Supachipud to the hospital, upgrades from the bus stand to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, extension of the Dattawadi bridge, renovation of the fort, and development along the Valvanti river.
Addressing civic concerns, Sawant urged traders to avoid storing goods on roads and recommended shifting the weekly market to Sundays. In addition, the Eagle Sports Club announced plans to launch a cricket academy, further promoting sports among local youth.
Municipal Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu, Deputy Chairperson Dayanand Boryekar, councillors, and club members attended the event.
