Chandor: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 50th Chandor Seamen Football Tournament after overcoming Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 4-3 in a thrilling tie-breaker at the Chandor church complex ground.
Don Bosco Oratory took the early lead in the 16th minute through veteran Francis Andrade, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot into an empty net. However, after the break, Sao Jose de Areal returned with renewed determination. In the 50th minute, Derryl D’Costa was fouled inside the box, and Bensal Viegas confidently converted the resulting penalty in the 51st minute to restore parity.
With the scores locked 1-1 at full time, the contest headed into a shootout. Sao Jose de Areal held their nerve as Bensal Viegas, Derryl D’Costa, and Aryan Carvalho all found the target, while only Francis Andrade managed to score for Don Bosco, sealing a 4-3 victory for Areal.
On the occasion, Chandor Club presented a Golden Jubilee memento to Don Bosco Oratory through former president Basil Fernandes. The Hero of the Match award went to Sao Jose de Areal goalkeeper Ashwin Travasso, who was felicitated by former Chandor Club player Alvarinho Dias.
