PANAJI: Sao Jose de Areal sports club staged an impressive comeback to defeat Guardian Angel SC Curchorem 4-2 in the United Trophy, organized by the United Club of Telaulim. The tournament, known for its fast-paced and attacking style of soccer, saw Guardian Angel SC initially dominate the proceedings with early goals.
Guardian Angel’s Regan Costa opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Pravin Almeida doubled the lead in the 26th minute. However, Bersal Viegas managed to pull one back for Sao Jose de Areal before halftime, leaving the score at 2-1 in favor of Guardian Angel. Undeterred, Areal regrouped for the second half and shifted into high gear, netting three more goals through Mohammad Mansoori, Stalen Oliveira, and Darryl Costa in the 35th, 39th, and 42nd minutes, respectively. This offensive onslaught secured a crucial 4-2 victory and propelled Sao Jose de Areal into the quarterfinals.
Rayman Fernandes of Areal was commended for his exceptional performance, earning him the Man of the Match award presented by Sandip Tuyenkar.
