CANACONA: Sara Shamba Naik Dessai is declared elected unopposed at the 33rd Chairperson of Canaocna Municipal Council today.
As Naik Dessai’s is the only nomination received to fill up the vacant post of CMC Chairperson, Presiding Officer Canacona Dy. Collector Madhu Narvekar after completing all the official formalities declared Sara Shamba Naik Dessai as unanimously elected as the Chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council. With this declaration, Naik Dessai became the 33rd Chairperson ever since the erstwhile Nagorcem-Palolem village panchayat was upgraded to Canacona Municipal Council. There are however, three Administrators appointed at different points of time to govern the southernmost municipality of Goa State.
Interestingly, while congratulations poured in and people lined up to wish the newly elected Chairperson all the other 6 councillors of the ruling group of councillors showed their unity, with the new chairperson herself stating that out of the remaining period she sits on the Chair for 16 months, and later hand-over the baton of Palolem Councillor Laxuman (Bakal) Pagui for the remaining months to complete the term successfully.
In her victory speech, Naik Dessai informed that she is going to carry forward the developments being done in the council in not only 7 wards represented by ruling councillors but all the Twelve Wards of Canacona Municipal Council. ‘Our council in recent times have completed works worth over 36 lakhs of rupees and similarly, we will complete the pending works of 13 lakhs as well.’
CMC’s Ex-Chairpersons Rajendra Dessai, Ajay Bhagat, Prathana Naik Gaonkar, Chaya Komarpant, Diwakar Pagui, came out strongly in support of and congratulated Naik Dessai,
Besides, ruling councillors Ramakant Naik Gaunkar, Simon Rebelo, Laxuman Pagui, Gandesh Madgavkar, Amita Pagi, Narcisco (Nadin) Fernandes, councillor Shubham Komarpant, were present, while Shristhal Sarpanch Sejal Gaonkar, Khotigao Sarpanch Anandu Dessai, congratulated Naik Dessai.-
