CANACONA: Stating it is high time not to leave anything to chance, Sarpanch of Loliem-Polem Pratiza Bandekar called on the villagers to help protect the nature and presence the village’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
Bandekar was speaking at the specially convened gramsabha of village panchayat of Loliem-Polem on Friday, to approved the People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) prepared by Biodiversity Management Committee of the Loliem-Polem village.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch Bandekar in her key note address stated, villagers should strive to protect the environment, and rich biodiversity of the village without harming any of the natures gift as our gift for the guture generations.
Sarpanch call assumes significance considering the recent government attempts to develop or bring projects on the rich biodiversity plateau (Bhagwati plateau) which as th centre of attention in the village for past few years.
Students from S S Angle Higher Secondary School, St. Sebastian and Shri Nirakar Vidyalaya presented their projects which were earlier presented by them at State –level and even at national level on biodiversity.
Goa State Biodiversity Board lecturer Rushab Mapxekar presented a report on the working of Goa Biodiveristy.
Most of the panchas were also present alongwith some prominents members of the village, who activelt took part in the discussion.
The PBR as prepared and presented by BMC was approved unanimously with some minor incorporation of some suggestions.

Some medicinal and Fruit bearing plants were distributed to the villagers at the meeting.
Earlier, BMC member Cajy D’Silva welcomed and compered the entire meeting.
