PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the outcomes of the 56th GST Council meeting would provide major relief to businesses and citizens, while giving a boost to Goa’s tourism sector.
Addressing the GST 2.0 Reforms Conference organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in Panaji, Sawant said the council had simplified the GST slabs to 5 per cent and 18 per cent and extended tax relief to healthcare, insurance and life-saving drugs.
He said faster processes under the new framework would benefit entrepreneurs and exporters. The reforms would also advance national initiatives such as Swadeshi, Vocal for Local and Viksit Bharat 2047, he added.
On behalf of Goa, the chief minister congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for what he described as transformative reforms.
