PANAJI: Buoyed by the General election results, the Chief Minister decided to pay back the Goan electorate by not imposing any taxes in his financial statement for the year 2022-23.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the state government has proposed not to levy any additional taxes on Goans while stating that there is an equal need to focus on the State’s revenue from various sources.
“There is an equal need to focus on the revenue that the State augments from various sources. This year, I do not propose levy any additional taxes on our Goans, but I will work thoroughly to get in more reforms in various revenue-generating departments,’ said CM Sawant while presenting the budget.
He further said that over these years, he realized that increasing revenue does not necessarily imply increasing the taxes but also plugging revenue leakages and undertaking reforms that will curtail the expenditure on redundant activities.
“This year, without burdening my Goan brothers and sisters, I will bring in various reforms, rationalize the tax slabs on various components and undertake strict enforcement measures with which I expect to mobilize additional revenue to the State Government. The action on this will be visible in due course of time,” he added.
