PANAJI: The Supreme Court on HAS postponed the hearing of Special Leave Petitions (SLPs) filed by the Goa Government and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department, which contest the March 13 ruling of the Bombay High Court at Goa concerning Section 17(2) of the Goa Town and Country Planning Act.
The case, which was scheduled for hearing today, has now been adjourned to July 21 after the state government sought more time due to the unavailability of its senior counsel. The apex court accepted the request and rescheduled the matter accordingly.
The High Court’s order had far-reaching implications for the implementation of planning permissions and land-use regulations under Section 17(2), prompting the state and the TCP Department to seek intervention from the Supreme Court.
Friday’s adjournment maintains the status quo, keeping the High Court’s order in temporary suspension until the Supreme Court hears the matter. The case is being closely followed by stakeholders in Goa’s urban development and real estate sectors, given its potential impact on planning policies across the state.
The Supreme Court will now hear the matter on July 21, giving both sides additional time to prepare their submissions.
