In an interesting turn of events, the Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Goa Legislative Speaker Rajesh Patnekar and the two ministers Babu Azgaoinkar and Deepak Pauskar on the defection case filed by Sudin Dhavalikar.
The two MLAs defected to the BJP from the Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) in last MArch.
Thereafter, Dhavalikar had filed a disqualification petition against the two under the Anti-defection law.
However, till date, the Speaker has not taken any decision on the matter.
The Bench of Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian also issued notices.
The matter is now fixed for September 4.
The development comes close on the heels of the SC issuing notices to Patnekar in the case of defection of 10 Congress MLAs into BJP last year.
The SC had given four weeks time for reply, which ended on July 17.
