Telaulim: In a thrilling matchup at the Government Primary School Ground in Telaulim, SCC Loutolim secured a spot in the semifinals of the UCT Trophy Inter-Village 9-a-side Football Tournament. The team edged past United Boys of Ambaulim in a nail-biting penalty shootout, winning 7-6 after the game ended in a 2-2 draw at full time.
SCC Loutolim dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Flager Moraes in the 12th minute and Semson Mascarenhas in the 26th minute. However, United Boys of Ambaulim staged a strong comeback in the second half. Sowell Fernandes reduced the deficit in the 34th minute, and Elite Oliveira scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.
In the tiebreaker, SCC Loutolim’s precision paid off. Shelford Fernandes, Ashwin Colaco, Ignatius D’Silva, Flager Moraes, and Semson Mascarenhas all found the net for their team. On the other side, Sowell Fernandes, Leadon Fernandes, Joel Fernandes, and Elite Oliveira scored for United Boys of Ambaulim, but it was not enough to secure the win.
Shelford Fernandes of SCC Loutolim was awarded the Man of the Match by Dinesh Naik, the sports secretary of Cuncolim Union, for his outstanding performance.
