PANAJI: The Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has agreed to issue English question papers to certain Konkani and Urdu medium schools this academic year, ensuring students are not disadvantaged.
Of the 70 Konkani medium primary schools in the state, six have requested English question papers as they follow English as the medium of instruction.
The SCERT Steering Committee has approved this request for the current year only.
Similarly, Goa has 25 primary Urdu medium schools and four secondary Urdu medium schools. These schools have sought permission to offer English as the third language, and SCERT has sanctioned this arrangement for the present academic year.
SCERT Director Meghna Shetgaonkar stated that formal policy decisions regarding language provisions and related issues will be finalized in the future.
