CANACONA: A school bus belonging to Nirankar Vidyalaya was completely gutted after it caught fire while parked in the garage of S.S. Angle Higher Secondary School at Maxem on Thursday night.
The incident occurred at around 8.30 pm, when the bus, parked in the vicinity of S.S. Angle HSS across NH-66, was noticed engulfed in flames. Eyewitnesses described the bus as appearing like a “ball of fire,” prompting frantic calls to the Fire and Emergency Services.
Fire personnel responded immediately; however, the fire tender from the Chapoli fire station reportedly took over half an hour to reach the spot via NH-66. By the time firefighters arrived and managed to bring the blaze under control, the school bus had been reduced almost entirely to ashes.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Preliminary information suggests that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. The bus had been parked in the Higher Secondary School’s garage during the Christmas vacation period, as S.S. Angle HSS is currently closed.
Sources, however, indicated that sabotage has not been ruled out and all possible angles are being examined as part of the investigation. Further inquiry is underway.
