PANAJI: Almost a year after the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the doors to schools have finally open today. The classes will however be conducted over virtual conference.
However, students in Goa are facing network connectivity. In many places, it is the absence of mobile towers that results in poor connectivity.
Almost 2.8 lakh students enrolled from Class I to XII have been expected to start new academic 2021-22 year today
The directorate of schooling issued a notice on Thursday stating all lecturers to attend college from 21st June.
The schooling director D R Bhagat said, “The schools have to support their students by suitable alternative means, including online. The schools have to come up with alternatives for students who can’t participate in online teaching-learning.”
The teachers had been asked to prepare worksheets and lectures and reach out to the students not connected via online means, in addition to carrying out the online teaching from June 21.
Non-teaching staff have already been asked to resume work at schools as the daily count of COVID-19 cases has declined in the coastal state.
In the recent past many times students had to trek for a few kilometres in certain areas to get a proper signal so that they could attend classes or submit their assignments online.
The situation is similar where online classes failed to pick up as most areas do not have network connectivity or the guardians are not able to purchase smarts phones due to lack of money with them.
Goa has so far recorded 1,63,048 cases of COVID-19, including 2,947 casualties.
