MARGAO: Among the many holy festivals celebrated across India, Diwali holds a special place as the Festival of Lights. The five-day celebration, also known as Deepotsav, is observed with great enthusiasm in Goa.
To mark the festive occasion, the Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) has announced its 3rd Lord Krishna Attire Competition and ‘Panti’ Decoration Competition, scheduled to be held on October 18, 2025, at Lohia Maidan, Margao, starting from 4 p.m.
The Lord Krishna Attire Competition is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 14 years, with a special category for children between 1 and 3 years. Participants must come dressed as Lord Krishna from home and bring their school ID card for verification. Each contestant will be given two minutes to perform or present their art/dialogue. The decision of the judges will be final.
In addition, the ‘Panti’ Decoration Competition will be open to girls and women in two age groups — 15 to 30 years and 31 to 50 years. Participants must bring their identity card, their own clay panti(s) (1 to 10 in number), and all decoration materials such as glitters, laces, ropes, sequins, mirrors, colours, and adhesive. Materials will not be provided by the organizers, and contestants must decorate their panti(s) at the venue. Pre-decorated panti(s) brought from home will be disqualified. Participants will have one hour to complete and display their decorations.
Both competitions are open to residents within Margao Municipal jurisdiction.
Adv. Snehal Onskar has appealed to parents and residents to encourage children and youth to take part in the festive competitions and celebrate Diwali in a creative and cultural spirit.
