Canacona: A scooter rider lost his life while two others sustained injuries after a truck rammed into their two-wheeler near Golden Fish Bar & Restaurant at Dapot, Maxem T-junction.
According to Canacona Police, the accident occurred around 4:50 pm on October 19 when the accused driver, Hussari Sab, a resident of Uttar Kannada, Karnataka, allegedly drove his lorry in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Canacona towards Polem.
The truck reportedly hit a Wego scooter travelling in the same direction. The impact caused injuries to the rider, Mithalesh Manjhi, a resident of Loliem and native of Bihar, and to pillion riders Dinanath Kumar and Ashik Manjhi, both natives of Bihar.
Mithalesh Manjhi succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. An inquest and postmortem were conducted, with the police surgeon confirming the cause of death as head injury with multiple fractures and damage to vital organs of the chest cavity.
The deceased’s body was later handed over to his family members for the final rites. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Vishal Velip of Canacona Police Station.
