MERCES: A 47-year-old man was seriously injured after an unidentified car knocked down his scooter near Merces Circle late on Friday night. Police said the accident occurred around 11.15 p.m. on August 22, when the unknown driver of a four-wheeler, whose registration number is not known, allegedly drove rashly and negligently while proceeding towards Old Goa. The vehicle hit a TVS Wego scooter (GA-04/K-5187) ridden by Riyaz Mahammad Aga, a resident of Valpoi, and sped away without stopping to render aid or inform police. The victim sustained serious injuries and is presently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College, Bambolim. A case has been registered at Old Goa Police Station, and further investigation is being carried out by Head Constable Rajan Zalmi.
