Cuncolim: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a scooter rider on Saturday evening near Goa Kaju Darbar at Nayaband, Cuncolim. The incident occurred around 5:20 PM, when an Ashok Leyland truck, driven by Vadiraj Nayaka, a resident of Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner, endangering public safety.
According to a complaint filed by HC 5088 Vinod Kankonkar of Cuncolim Police Station, the truck was proceeding from Cuncolim towards Balli when it collided head-on with an oncoming Activa scooter travelling from Balli to Cuncolim. The impact caused severe injuries to the scooter rider, identified as Kamlesh Gaonkar, a resident of Barcem, Quepem.
Gaonkar was rushed to South District Hospital, Margao, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the accident, an inquest panchanama was conducted, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The Police Surgeon confirmed that the cause of death was “haemorrhagic shock resulting from multiple injuries sustained in a road traffic accident, including fracture of the mandible, laceration of the nasal region, and massive haemorrhage into the mediastinum and gastrointestinal tract.”
The deceased’s body has since been handed over to the family for final rites. The case is under further investigation by PSI Sudan Bhosale of Cuncolim Police Station.
