Cuncolim: A scooter rider lost his life in a fatal road accident involving a car on NH-66 at Panzorconi in South Goa on the morning of January 28, 2026.
According to Cuncolim Police, an offence was registered on the basis of a state complaint lodged by HC Vinod Kankonkar of Cuncolim Police Station. The incident occurred at around 6.45 am opposite Sai Krupa Hotel, Panzorconi.
Police said the accused, identified as Sanjay Horakeri, a resident of Gogol, Davorlim and a native of Belagavi, Karnataka, was driving a Maruti Ertiga car from Margao towards Cuncolim. He allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life, and when he reached opposite Sai Krupa Hotel, his car dashed against a Honda Activa scooter that was crossing the road.
The impact reportedly dragged the scooter along with the rider for some distance. The rider, identified as Ulhas Gaonkar, a resident of Gaonkarwado, Panzorconi, sustained serious injuries to his head and other parts of the body. He later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and referred the body for post-mortem examination at SGDH, Margao. The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as “damage to head, chest and spine consequent to blunt force impact.” The body was later handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Kishor Velip of Cuncolim Police Station.
