The villagers of Melauli on Monday demonstrated before the village panchayat Guleli demanding scrapping of the proposed IIT Goa at Melauli.
The villagers, gathered in large numbers before the panchayt ghar and demanded answers from their local representatives.
“We do not want IIT Goa at the cost of our livelihood,” said the villagers.
The villagers have been demanding scrapping as their land would be taken away for the development of IIT.
The locals say they have been cultivating the land for decades now, which is also ecologically sensitive.
The government has handed over 10 lakh sq meter of land to the IIT Goa project and another 3 lakh is scheduled to be handed over.
