VERNA: A case of arson has been registered at Verna Police Station following a complaint that multiple scrapyards were deliberately set on fire at Queolossim, Cortalim, causing losses running into lakhs of rupees.
According to police, Sharif Hassan, a resident of Davorlim, lodged a complaint stating that on December 12, 2025, between 12.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs at Queolossim, Cortalim, a suspected accused identified as Rijayl Mustafa, resident of Queolossim, Cortalim, intentionally set fire to the scrapyards belonging to the complainant and three others.
The complainant has estimated his loss at approximately ₹50,000, while the other affected scrapyard owners—Asif Shaikh, Athiq Shaikh and Sahid Nizami—have suffered combined losses estimated at around ₹20 lakh. Police stated that the alleged motive behind the incident is previous enmity between the parties.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ramchandra Naik of Verna Police Station.
