PANAJI: In a shocking incident, a security guard was killed and another injured in a violent assault at Casino Carnival, located at Campal, Panaji, during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred around 3:10 AM, prompting an immediate response from Panaji Police Station.
According to police sources, the accused, Abdul Altaf, son of Abdul Rauf (25), a resident of Misri Ganj, Charminar, Hyderabad, assaulted multiple security personnel using a wooden rod with an iron clamp that he forcefully pulled out from the casino’s staircase. The assault was reportedly carried out with intent to kill.
One of the victims, Mr. Dheeru Sharma (33), son of Shankar Lal Sharma and a native of Satna, Madhya Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
Another security guard, Mr. Satyam (27), son of Subhash Gaonkar, resident of Karmane, Tarwale, Shiroda, sustained a serious head injury and is undergoing treatment.
A police team under the supervision of SP North Goa Rahul Gupta, SDPO Panaji Sudesh Naik, and PI Panaji Police Station, swiftly launched an operation to trace the assailant. Acting on leads, the team intercepted Abdul Altaf while he was en route to Dabolim Airport in a bid to escape the state.
It has since been revealed that Abdul Altaf is a known rowdy-sheeter affiliated with the Mailardevpally Police Station in Hyderabad, raising further concerns about the ease with which high-risk individuals are able to access sensitive locations like casinos.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has visited the crime scene. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is currently underway.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local security industry and raised pressing questions about casino security protocols and background checks on patrons.
