PANAJI: Ahead of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the North Goa District Magistrate has announced prohibitory measures restricting public gatherings and certain activities from November 19 to 28.
The order, issued under the BNSS provisions, bars the assembly of five or more people and forbids organizing processions. It also bans the carrying of firearms and offensive weapons—including lathis, swords, daggers, and spears—along with the use of loudspeakers, slogan shouting, and bursting of firecrackers near fuel stations or event venues. These restrictions apply within a 500-meter radius of all IFFI-related locations falling under the Panaji and Agassaim police jurisdictions.
The enhanced security measures come as Goa prepares to host the prestigious film festival, which will feature over 240 films from 81 countries, including 13 world premieres, four international premieres, and 46 Asian premieres. The festival officially opens on November 20.
