PANAJI: Security measures are being significantly enhanced in high-footfall and tourist-heavy zones across the state, following directives from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant], Director General of Police Alok Kumar confirmed today.
Speaking to the press, DGP Kumar stated that both daytime and nighttime security will be bolstered to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike. The move comes amid growing concerns about public safety in densely crowded and popular areas.
“As per the Chief Minister’s orders, we are intensifying security in all high-visibility and tourist-centric locations. This includes increased patrolling, surveillance, and deployment of personnel to ensure a round-the-clock presence,” Kumar said.
Authorities have not cited a specific threat but emphasized the measure as a proactive step toward maintaining law and order and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
The state government is expected to coordinate with local law enforcement, tourism departments, and municipal bodies to implement the security upgrade effectively.
Further announcements regarding specific locations and operational plans are anticipated in the coming days.
Besides a mock exercise simulating an air strike scenario was conducted at IOCL, Vasco.
The exercise depicted significant damage and fire resulting from the simulated strike.
Four seriously injured workers were shifted to Chicalim Sub-District Hospital (SDH), while twenty workers were successfully rescued.
The operation was led by the Mamlatdar of Mormugao, Pravinjay Pandit alongwith Officials from the Police Department, Fire Services, Civil Defence, Medical Services, PWD, Traffic Department, and various volunteer organizations extended their assistance during the exercise.
