OLD GOA: Old Goa Police have registered a case after a 75-year-old man from Chorao was allegedly cheated of ₹1.31 lakh in an online fraud by a person impersonating as a gas company officer.
According to police, the offence was registered on March 14, 2026 at 10:52 pm at Old Goa Police Station under Crime No. 43/2026 based on the complaint of Louis Peter Colaco (75), a retired resident of H. No. 432, Saudewado, Chorao, North Goa.
As per the complaint, on March 9, 2026 at around 5:36 pm, an unknown accused person contacted the complainant claiming to be an MGL Gas officer identified as “Mr. Divesh Joshi.” The accused allegedly induced the complainant to install a mobile application on his phone.
After gaining access, the accused obtained the complainant’s bank credentials without his consent and subsequently carried out fraudulent transactions from the account.
Police said the complainant was cheated of ₹1,31,989 through the transactions.
Old Goa Police have registered an offence under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Diptaraj Gaude.
