VASCO: A 72-year-old man from Chicalim was allegedly cheated of ₹1,50,299 in an online fraud after being tricked into sharing his credit card details with a person posing as a D’Mart employee.
According to Vasco police, the complainant, Joseph Mario Lopes (72), a resident of Chicalim, Mormugao, was contacted by unknown person who impersonated himself as an employee of D’Mart. The accused allegedly persuaded him to click on a link and enter his credit card details, claiming that it would make banking transactions easier.
Soon after the details were filled in, a total amount of ₹1,50,299 was fraudulently debited from his bank account, police said.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police registered an offence under Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Nikhil Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
