OLD GOA: A case of online fraud has been registered at Old Goa Police Station after a senior citizen was cheated of Rs 3.48 lakh by a fraudster posing as a customer care executive of a travel booking platform.
According to police, the complaint was filed on March 18, 2026, at 6:11 pm by Trupti Nadkarni (46), a resident of Shantaban Housing Complex, Merces–Chimbel Road, Santa Cruz.
As per the complaint, the incident took place on March 16 at around 6:02 pm, when an unknown accused impersonated an Agoda customer care employee and contacted the complainant’s father. The accused allegedly convinced him to install a mobile application on his phone under the pretext of resolving an issue.
After gaining access, the accused obtained sensitive bank credentials and carried out multiple fraudulent transactions, cheating the victim of Rs 3,48,459.96.
Police have registered a case of cheating and are investigating the matter. Efforts are underway to trace the accused and track the financial trail.
