CORTALIM: A 60-year-old man died after his scooter was hit from behind by a car near the Toyota showroom at Keserval, Cortalim, on Sunday
According to Verna police, the accused driver, Neville Joaquim Mascarenhas, 25, a resident of Covatem, Cavorim-Chandor, Goa, and originally from Mumbai, Maharashtra, was proceeding from Panjim towards Margao in a Toyota Innova. Around 9.06 a.m., he allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and rammed into a Honda Activa scooter from the rear.
The scooter rider, Basappa Metri, a resident of Dicarpale, Davorlim-Navelim, South Goa, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where he was declared brought dead.
Based on a state complaint filed by HC Sandeep Naik, Verna police registered an offence under sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). The investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
