PONDA: Police are currently investigating two unrelated cases of alleged sexual harassment involving persistent and unwanted communication directed at women in Ponda and Nuvem.
In the first incident reported at the Ponda Police Station, a woman has filed a complaint against a 62-year-old Pernem resident, accusing him of repeatedly sending sexually inappropriate messages over a period spanning from 2021 to January 2025. The complainant alleged that the accused, identified as Petkar, misused her WhatsApp status images to make lewd comments and attempted to physically harass her on multiple occasions. She further claimed that he threatened her husband with serious consequences when confronted. The case is being handled by Lady Police Sub-Inspector (LPSI) Anjali Dhulapkar.
Meanwhile, in a separate case lodged in Nuvem, a woman has alleged that her driver, a resident of Calata, has been harassing her through repeated WhatsApp messages and unsolicited voice and video calls since May 2025. Despite clearly indicating that the contact was unwelcome, the accused allegedly persisted with the communication.
Both matters are currently under active investigation by the respective police units.
