Margao: On Friday, at the South Goa District Collectorate, Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira emphasized the need to streamline the process of issuing land conversion sanads to address the backlog of pending applications.
This initiative comes after numerous complaints about the lengthy delays in obtaining the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various departments, including Forest, Agriculture, and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department.
Sequeira, who held a public meeting (darbar) at the Collectorate, discussed the issue with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, highlighting the frustrations of applicants due to the slow issuance of conversion sanads. To expedite the process, Sequeira proposed that the South Collectorate compile a consolidated list of pending cases and forward it to the relevant departments. He suggested that the TCP department, for instance, could quickly review zoning issues without causing significant delays.
The Minister also extended this streamlined approach to the regularization of houses, aiming to coordinate inspections more efficiently. “I am working on a system to ensure all panel members are present during house inspections to speed up the process,” he explained.
During the darbar, Sequeira addressed several other pressing issues, including the resolution of the disposal of 17 dead bodies at the Goa Medical College and Hospital mortuary, which he confirmed had been resolved thanks to Chief Minister Sawant’s intervention. Additionally, he discussed solutions to low water pressure in the villages of Majorda, Utorda, and Calata with Public Works Department (PWD) officials.
Sequeira also assured that the issue of malfunctioning lifts in the Osia Commercial building would be resolved soon, with the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) set to install a new lift in the coming days. For the second lift, he mentioned that Chief Minister Sawant’s directives to the Transport Department would address the problem.
