Curtorim: In a compelling display of skill and determination, Sesa Football Academy has secured a spot in the final of the Batora United Curtorim Women’s Festival Soccer Tournament. The team’s 2-0 victory over Calangute Association at the DSYA Ground in Curtorim on Tuesday was highlighted by the stellar performance of Rezilla Almeida, who scored both goals and was awarded the ‘Woman of the Match’.
The match, which took place on Tuesday, saw Sesa Football Academy dominate the field from the outset. Rezilla Almeida opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Despite a missed opportunity by Christine of Calangute Association in the 15th minute, Sesa Football Academy maintained their lead. Almeida sealed the victory with her second goal in the 47th minute, ensuring her team’s place in the final.
The event was graced by the presence of Girjadevi Desai, a renowned physical education teacher and coach, who holds an AFC B License and an AFC Futsal Level 2 License. Desai, the only woman in India with a Futsal Level 2 License, has an impressive coaching record, having led teams such as Churchill Brothers, the Goa State Team, and Goa University teams. She presented the ‘Woman of the Match’ award to Rezilla Almeida, acknowledging her outstanding performance.
Francisco Fernandes, the GFA match commissioner, and other dignitaries were also in attendance, underscoring the significance of the tournament in promoting local football talent. The presence of these notable figures added to the prestige of the event, highlighting the growing importance of women’s football in the region.
