New Delhi: At least seven workers lost their lives in a major fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, on Monday morning. Authorities said around 10 workers are still feared trapped inside the industrial unit.
The incident occurred at approximately 9.30 am when an estimated 20 to 25 workers were present at the facility. According to officials, flames spread rapidly through the private factory premises within minutes, engulfing a large section of the building. While some workers managed to escape, others were unable to make it out as the blaze intensified.
The fire was first noticed during routine police patrolling in the area, following which emergency services were alerted. Police personnel, fire brigade teams, medical responders and senior administrative officials rushed to the site and sealed off the vicinity to facilitate rescue and relief operations.
Firefighters battled the flames for nearly one and a half hours before bringing the situation under control. Rescue teams continued their search operation amid concerns that more workers could be trapped inside the damaged structure.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A preliminary investigation is being supervised by Tijara Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivraj Singh. Senior district officials, including the Superintendent of Police and the Additional District Magistrate, are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The district administration has ordered a magisterial inquiry to establish the cause of the fire and examine whether there were any lapses in safety measures at the factory. Authorities said further details would be released after a thorough assessment of the site and completion of initial investigations.
