PANAJI: Kukesh Rauta, the accused in sextortion cases involving Aldona’ MLA, has approached Bombay High Court at Goa pleading to quash FIR filed against him in connection with alleged case of extroting money.
Rauta, Odisha native, was arrested by Crime Branch in December for eextorting Rs 5 lakh from a MLA Carlos Ferreira by morphing the legislator’s face in an obscene video.
Ferreira had filed a complaint against Rauta, an Odisha native, who was accused of extorting money by threatening to expose a modified, pornographic film of the lawmaker.
The MLA, who represents Congress from Aldona, claimed in his allegation that the accused reached out to him through a video chat on his cell phone. The accused secretly filmed the MLA throughout the call, and the tape was subsequently edited digitally to include graphic sexual material about a woman.
After sending the modified video to the MLA, the accused threatened to release the video if he did not receive the money he sought. The MLA first sent Rs 55,000 to the accused’s bank account under duress.
The accused, however, later wanted an extra Rs 5 crore and threatened to have the footage posted on social media if they didn’t agree.
The episode has bolstered the ruling BJP, which was already reeling from the opposition’s criticism of the cash-for-job fraud.
In a recent demonstration outside the Goa Congress office, BJP Yuva Morcha and former Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo called on Carlos Ferreira to resign due to his suspected involvement in the extortion case.
